We had an extra special adoption recently! Rocky came to us in July 2020, and was quickly adopted as a puppy in August of that year. Sadly, his family couldn’t care for him the way he needed due to extenuating family circumstances and he was returned in March 2021.
His family loved him and they made sure to let us know a lot about his personality! In our first adoption feature in April 2021, we let the world know about this beautiful boy. He was energetic, loves toys and other dogs. He had learned lots of commands and knew Sit, Stay, Come, No, Down and Paw. Rocky also loved car rides and playing in the water! But, was scared of bath time, the vacuum and nail trims. He also was kennel trained and let his humans know he needed to potty by sitting by the door! What a catch of an older puppy, right?!
Well after his feature, his foster took him to adoption event after adoption event with very little interest. November 2021, rolled around and everything changed! Craig D. and his family met Rocky at an adoption event and fell in love!
Our 1st Adoption with Pets for Patriots
Craig is an active duty serviceman and has served our country for more than 20 years in the army. Through our partnership with Pets for Patriots, Craig was eligible for 20 percent off of Rocky’s adoption fees, as well as other great benefits and discounts. December 4, 2021, Rocky officially became our partnerships first adoption!

About Pets for Patriots
Pets for Patriots provides veterans and active duty personnel (that qualify) with discounts or other specials when adopting through their rescue or shelter partners, which includes OPA! To receive their benefits and a potential discount on your adoption, you must be approved by Pets for Patriots BEFORE adopting with us. Additionally, not all animals are eligible under the partnership.

Applicant Qualifications
- A minimum of 190 days of military service (basic and active duty training excluded)
- Proof of service
- If separated, character of service must be honorable
Eligible Pets
- Cat or dog of at least 2 years of age
- Dog or cat with special needs
- Cat or dog that has been homeless for 6+ months
- Dog weighing 40+ pounds at adoption
- *We can’t stress this one enough* You must be approved by Pets for Patriots prior to adopting (exceptions for weekend and federal holiday adoptions)
