October Newsletter: Tailgate Raffle Time + Fun Fall Events

October Newsletter: Tailgate Raffle Time + Fun Fall Events

We have two very exciting fundraisers happening right now that will make a big impact in our life-saving efforts! As well as a “mega” adoption event happening tomorrow at Petco in The Woodlands (next to Trader Joe’s)!

Our Tailgate Party Cooler Raffle is back again for the 3rd year in a row! This popular fundraiser has raised several thousand for us in years past and offers you the chance to win a cooler filled with prices! Sorry, the puppies aren’t included. We are also running the Buy 5, Get 1 Free promo again this year! See all the details at the link below.

(Sales are closed, and links to buy have been removed.)

After a very successful fundraiser earlier this year to find our featured dogs, our 2025 OPA Dog Calendar is finally available for purchase! The first half of this fundraiser raised over $6,000, can you help us match that?!

2025 OPA Calendar

$20.00

Special thanks to Lenora Stein Photography for volunteering her time and skills for both of these fundraisers!

Every day, we’re inundated with pleas for help from animals in need, and it breaks our hearts to turn them away when all we want to do is save them. Rescue work is a constant cycle of hope and heartache—waking up to cries for help and going to bed with the weight of those same cries on our minds.

We received a request for Tessa from a previous adopter, a sweet 9-year-old pitbull who desperately needed medical attention. Tessa is suffering from severe allergies that have left her itchy and uncomfortable. She’s currently under the care of our wonderful vet partners, who have started her on steroids to help manage her allergies. During her exam, we also discovered some crystal sediment in her bladder, which indicates tiny stones that we hope will be treated effectively with antibiotics.

Tessa is being such a good girl in her foster home, and we’re hopeful that with the support of our amazing veterinary partners, we can get her comfortable again. If you’re able to help Tessa on her journey to better health, please consider donating on our website or check out her Amazon wishlist.

Foster Feature: Temple

Come meet this beautiful girl at Petco in The WoodlandsTOMORROW!

Temple is adorable and has a quirky personality to match. She wants you to respect her space, but when she wants love and affection, you better be ready to give it! She likes hanging out with mature humans, no small children for her, but does have a clear preference for men. She is a quiet, well-behaved lady and doesn’t scratch furniture or chew on anything (except her toys). Temple is looking for an experienced cat person with the time and patience to help her feel secure and happy. She can be a bit sassy and doesn’t like to share her humans, so would be best as the only pet.

Temple approximately 10 pounds and 2 years old. Interested in meeting or adopting her? Submit an application on our website (no obligation to adopt) with her name and ID 19614029: https://operationpetsalive.org/programs/adopt/

Not looking to adopt, but ready to open your home for a short time to an animal in need? Please TEXT Rebecca at 254-317-6132 or email rebecca@operationpetsalive.org if you can foster. Whether it’s a dog or cat, we have an animal you can help today! Unsure? Learn more about fostering with OPA by clicking here.

Coco Classic Tennis Tournament

We are still looking for sponsors and player for the 2nd Annual Coco Classic Tennis Tournament! It will be Saturday November 9, at Bear Branch Park in The Woodlands. Singles and teams of all skill levels are welcome to sign up. New for this year will be the opportunity to have your company in front of our newsletter audience and on our website.

All proceeds will benefit OPA and the animals we care for! See all the details for playing or sponsoring here.

Foster Feature: Cricket

Cricket was a stray 7-month-old Shepherd mix that found herself at the animal shelter in the summer of 2021. Operation Pets Alive evaluated Cricket as being a good candidate for adoption and possibly even the transport program. Unfortunately, due to a lack of fosters, Cricket went into a short-term boarding facility, but the good news was she was safe from euthanasia for space.

In September of 2021, Cricket finally got the chance to attend an adoption event. Her shining personality won the heart of her adopter and she went to live with him that day. Everyone thought this was Cricket’s happily ever after. Sadly, in January 2024, Cricket’s person needed to enter a nursing home and she could not go with him.

Cricket is now back in Operation Pets Alive’s foster program and enjoying her foster home, but she deserves her very own home! Here’s what Cricket’s foster has to say about her: “Cricket is laid back and easy going. She gets along with our alpha female and our grumpy old man mastiff mix. Cricket and our female are besties and play, play, play. Cricket needs another dog friend to play with. She loves belly rubs and chillin’ on the bed with the other dogs. She is vocal when she wants to play but doesn’t bark at the neighbors or trash men like our other two. She is housetrained and crate trained and has been a joy to foster. She would be a wonderful addition!”

Cricket is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She is approximately 70 pounds and a little over 3 years old. Interested in meeting or adopting Cricket? Submit an application on our website (no obligation to adopt) with her name and ID D210389: https://operationpetsalive.org/programs/adopt/
