February Newsletter: Calendar Contest & Cat Transports

Our Calendar Contest is back and who doesn’t love a little friendly competition?

Picture this: Your dog, being one of the top 13 vote-receivers, professionally photographed by Lenora Stein Photography and gracing the pages of our 2026 calendar!

Remember all proceeds benefits OPA and are tax-deductible…and if you don’t have a dog to participate in the contest, you can still help support this fundraiser by reserving a calendar grid space (where you can show off your cat or other furry friends) OR BY VOTING!

Be sure you’re following Lenora’s Facebook page here to see special days when you’ll be able to have your votes DOUBLED and to see what cool weekly prizes our sponsors are giving away. So far, Poppy (an OPA alum) is in the lead to win this week’s prize from Hounds Town in The Woodlands!

Rescues on the Runway

Join OPA for an evening al-fresco where rescue pups and humans showcase their style on the runway! Delight in a delicious dinner, participate in a silent auction and raffle, and discover the many ways OPA makes a difference in the community.

Loading Up the CAT-avan

We are so happy to share that Monday (February 10) we will be a part of a transport that is sending 25 fabulous cats to a partner rescue in Minnesota! That’s not all, we already have other transports lined up for March–stay tuned!

A lot of work and supplies goes into transport operations and one of our biggest needs for this transport is cat litter! If you’d like to buy something from our Amazon Wishlist to get these cats off, shop here, or you can leave a donation on our website with a comment for the cats transport!

Calling All Volunteers!

It’s that time of year again! We need your help to fill 33 (last updated March 4) volunteer spots at IRONMAN on April 26!

Our volunteers will be set up at the Southshore Park (by the dragon in the lake) handing out refreshments to the athletes at Run Aid Station 4. Helping during this event is not only a great way to give back, offer encouragement and earn some volunteer hours, but you’ll also help earn a donation for OPA!

A huge thank you to those that have already signed up to help, as we started with 110 volunteer spots to fill. Grab a friend and come help cheer on the IRONMAN athletes!

Dean Update!

Thank you to everyone who donated to Dean’s medical bills when we sent the plea out in January. We are so happy to report he is doing much better and loving the extra special attention he is getting–which includes 4 different eye medications being administered 9 times a day!

His ophthalmologist, Dr. Piñeda, was amazed at his progress after the first week of treatment. He did say that even if Dean’s eye does heal, it might not ever be functional, and gives Dean a 50/50 chance of being able to keep his eye. We’re praying for miracles over here and looking forward to his next checkup coming soon!

If you’d like to help with Dean’s medical expenses, please consider donating through our website. Thank you for being part of Dean’s journey. Together, we can give him and others like him the chance they deserve!

See Dean’s backstory in our January Newsletter here.
