June is packed with opportunities to make a difference. As we celebrate both National Adopt a Cat Month and National Foster a Pet Month, we’re highlighting the many cats, kittens, dogs and puppies counting on our community for a second chance. Whether you’re ready to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate, there are countless ways to help save lives this summer!

National Adopt a Cat Month
Each year, shelters and rescues across the country experience a surge of cats and kittens entering care during “kitten season,” making adoptions especially important.
From playful kittens and adventurous explorers to quiet lap cats looking for a cozy place to call home, cats come in all ages, personalities and energy levels.. Whether they were born in foster care, rescued from the streets or surrendered through no fault of their own, each one deserves the chance to find a family.
National Adopt a Cat Month was established by the American Humane Association in 1974 to raise awareness about cat adoption and help more shelter cats find forever homes. This month, we invite you to consider opening your heart and home to a feline friend or help spread the word about the many wonderful cats currently waiting for homes through Operation Pets Alive!

National Foster a Pet Month
This June, celebrate National Foster a Pet Month with OPA and make a difference for homeless animals in Montgomery County!
Whether you can foster for a few days, a few weeks, or longer, your support gives animals the opportunity to thrive outside of a shelter environment while they wait for adoption. We are currently in need of fosters for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. OPA provides supplies, veterinary care and support. You provide a safe place and a little love!
Not able to foster right now? We need volunteers, too! As OPA continues to grow, so does our need for dedicated volunteers across many programs. From transports and adoption events to fundraising and administrative support, there are countless ways to help save lives.
Current and New Volunteers (and Fosters)
If you’ve filled out our volunteer release, but haven’t filled out your volunteer interests on our new form, now’s the time! Complete our volunteer preference form and an OPA team leader will contact you about available opportunities:
